Cockshaw wood is a small woodland on the western edge of The Sele park with lots of mature trees but little regeneration. It is very well used by locals walking on the footpaths and by children who have created several ‘slides’ that are now devoid of vegetation. There is a serious problem with Ash dieback and some mature trees will become increasingly unsafe over the next few years.

Following meetings with local residents, Hexham Space 4 Nature wrote to Neil Dawson at Northumberland County Council to suggest a meeting to discuss short-term issues and a longer-term approach to management and developing a management plan. Neil has responded positively and we look forward to meeting with residents in the near future.
