JUST FIX IT REPAIR EVENT
Just looking at the pile of electrical waste in our local recycling centre makes you want to weep – so we are committed to encouraging recycling and reducing waste, including electrical stuff. Whilst our efforts are tiny compared to the job that needs to be done by governments, designers and manufacturers – it’s something practical we can do – and ideas travel………..
Transition Tynedale’s efforts to reduce waste and teach mending skills happen at Just Fix It, our friendly repair event. It’s just one of many springing up all over the country where things are fixed rather than thrown out.

Thanks to the planning and goodwill of our wonderful library staff, and despite the holiday – there were interesting challenges and happy customers!
WHAT HAPPENS AT JUST FIX IT in the LIBRARY
“I enjoyed watching the repair!”
While you wait your turn to see a fixer, there are plenty of books to browse through and a very nice cafe next door, with especially good scones…..
“Happy Bunny!”
The fixer will explain what he/she is doing while they look at your item, and show you how you may be able to fix it yourself, or if not – what alternatives there might be.
” I learned more about PAT testing and the type of bulb to use in future”
Please bring in the right spare parts, zips, buttons or batteries etc if you can get hold of them. We don’t carry a stock of these things, but thanks to the generous grant from the Electricity Safety Fund, we have trained more volunteer electrical ‘fixers’.

All our fixers mend for free but we are extremely grateful for your donations to cover our overheads, such as PAT tester calibration, insurance etc.

Hosted by Hexham Library, our next Just Fix It in Hexham Library are always on Saturday 11-1 as follows:
October 17th: International Repair Day
December 12th: Electricity Safety event
FREE, FUN AND FRIENDLY
It’s all about sharing ideas and skills – while you watch our fixers at work, you might learn how to sew on that button, or set the tension on your sewing machine, or adjust the pedals on your bike. You may even forge new friendships while you wait.
THE TEAM
Our growing team of valued repairers includes stitchers, darners, joiners, upholsterers, IT specialists – and even jewellery, toy, bike, buggy and wheel fixers. Our volunteers are also trained in electrical equipment (PAT) testing (EET). Let us know if you have an electrical background and would like to top up your skills with training in PAT testing.
